Frequently Asked Questions

We know that applying for your training permit can raise some questions. In this section, we explain everything you need to know about the Bildungsurlaub (training permit), its professional benefits, and how Canarias Cultural handles the requirements so you can focus solely on learning.

What is Bildungsurlaub?

Bildungsurlaub can be translated as “training leave.” It is a legal right in Germany that allows employees to take up to five working days per year (or ten if accumulated over two years ) to attend officially recognized training courses, without loss of pay.

The aim is to facilitate access to continuing education and improve both the professional and personal skills of workers.

This right is available to all working people (employees and even, in some cases, civil servants) who work in a German federal state where the Bildungsurlaub law is in force.

Each federal state (Bundesland) has its own requirements. Generally, you need to have been employed by the company for at least six months before applying.

Bildungsurlaub fosters both professional growth and personal development. Courses typically focus on improving critical thinking, problem-solving, and intercultural communication.

This right promotes continuous learning and motivation, which has a positive impact on the work environment and the employee’s well-being.

For a Spanish course abroad to be accepted as a Bildungsurlaub, it must meet certain criteria:

– Minimum in-person hours per week:
The course must include at least 30 hours of in-person training per week. Tourist activities and self-employment are not permitted within this timeframe.

– Accredited schools and official certificates
Schools must be officially accredited and recognized. At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance and completion must be issued, indicating the number of hours, the level, and the content covered.

– Approval by the authorities of the federal state
Each course must be approved by the corresponding Bundesland (state ). At Canarias Cultural, we take care of preparing and sending all the necessary documentation for the course to be officially recognized.
